What Is Feeding Your Soul?

With everything going on in the world right now, many things are screaming for our attention. With what seems like so much negativity around us, it can be easy to slip into an unhealthy habit of letting the negativity take a higher place in our hearts rather than the good that comes from God. I know that when I fill my mind with negative things that I see or hear, it can begin to transform my heart and mind to become more downcast and hyper-focused on the bad rather than the good. When all the negative stimulus around us is constantly bombarding our minds, the same can happen to others, too. So much negativity can lead to a negative outlook on life that takes away from the light that should be in the world. In other words, it can make it harder to be attuned to the good.

With that being said, I encourage you to evaluate what you are filling your mind with and how those thoughts can begin to change your attitude or actions. Blocking out the negativity by sticking our heads in the sand and building up a wall around us to keep us in our bubble isn't what I recommend doing, nor am I endorsing but being aware of the health of our souls is important. Is your mind being directed away from or to God and His Word? Are your thoughts distracting you from the reason God has placed you here?

Romans 12:2 says, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect" (NIV). I think this verse does a great job of explaining how we are to be transformed to discern what is good rather than conformed to what is not. Feeding our minds with God and His Word is what will lead to internal change that is worth it. When we let our souls dwell on Him above all else, our perspective begins to shift so that we can see God in all situations and events. God and His goodness will be our primary focus. As Colossians 3:16 says, I pray that you will "let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to
God with gratitude in your hearts". ♥
